Chronicle of the Abyssal Seas
Chapter VI

The Age of Legends

Mankind no longer merely survived. It dreamed again.

As the Five Great Factions rose to power and civilization once again spread across the Abyssal Seas, mankind entered an age unlike any that had come before. The old struggles for survival had faded into memory, and though wars still raged and rival banners clashed upon the waves, prosperity had returned to much of the known world. Great ports flourished, mighty fleets ruled the trade routes, and new generations grew up knowing only the endless sea.

Yet peace was never destined to last.

For with prosperity came ambition, and with ambition came discovery.

It was during these years that sailors and treasure hunters began venturing farther than ever before. Driven by greed, curiosity, and dreams of glory, countless captains sailed beyond the known waters in search of forgotten riches buried beneath the sea. What they discovered would forever change the course of history.

Ancient ruins were found resting upon the ocean floor, preserved beneath the waves as though untouched by time itself. Entire cities of the Old World were discovered hidden beneath coral and stone. Strange relics bearing symbols no scholar could decipher were recovered from drowned temples. Treasure hunters returned with impossible artifacts and stories so unbelievable that many dismissed them as drunken tales spun in taverns.

But not all who ventured into the depths returned.

And some who did were never quite the same.

Whispers spread across the ports of monstrous creatures lurking beneath the waves. Fishermen spoke of serpents larger than islands and shadows moving beneath their ships. Survivors told tales of ghost vessels appearing within the fog, their crews long dead and their lanterns still burning. Others claimed to have seen impossible lights beneath the abyss or heard songs carried across the water on nights when no wind blew.

Most dismissed such stories.

Until they began happening too often to ignore.

As mysteries multiplied, so too did the legends of great men and women. Captains rose whose names became known across every corner of the sea. Some earned fame through bravery and honor. Others carved their names into history through blood and conquest. Songs were written about them. Statues were built in their likeness. Their deeds became tales repeated around lanterns and tavern tables long after they were gone.

Entire fleets vanished searching for treasures that may never have existed.

Others returned with riches beyond imagination.

Maps said to lead to forgotten kingdoms changed hands for fortunes.

Ancient weapons thought lost to history resurfaced.

And rumors spread of powers hidden beneath the depths that mankind was never meant to discover.

Some sought wealth.

Others sought knowledge.

And many sought immortality through glory.

It was an age of explorers, conquerors, treasure hunters, and dreamers. Great rivalries formed between legendary captains whose names would outlive empires. Sea monsters once thought to be myths became undeniable reality. Strange phenomena appeared across the Abyssal Seas, and many began to wonder whether the mysteries of the Great Drowning had truly endedβ€”or whether they had only just begun.

Though the Five Factions fought countless wars and pursued their own ambitions, none could deny that they lived in extraordinary times. Every horizon promised adventure. Every storm concealed secrets. Every forgotten island held the possibility of fortune or death.

And perhaps most importantly, hope had returned.

For after centuries of hardship and struggle, mankind no longer merely survived.

It dreamed again.

And dreams have always been the birthplace of legends.

Even now, sailors still tell stories of those remarkable years. Some tales have grown larger with each retelling. Others may contain more truth than anyone dares believe. But whether fact or fiction, one thing remains certain.

The Age of Legends gave birth to heroes, monsters, mysteries, and treasures that continue to shape the world to this very day.

And though many of those legends have long since passed into history, new ones are born with every generation.

For the sea has never ceased creating legends.

And perhaps somewhere, beyond the edge of the map, the greatest of them still waits to be discovered.

β€œGold is spent. Kingdoms fall. Even great ships rot and sink. But legends? Legends sail forever.”
