The Dendrobates auratus "Super Blue" is a captive-bred color morph of the green-and-black poison dart frog, highly valued for its striking coloration. This specific lineage originated from Panamanian turquoise auratus and was selectively line-bred to achieve its vivid blue hue.  

Key Characteristics 

Coloration: Juveniles mature into adults with stunningly vibrant blue bodies accented by metallic bronze to black reticulation (a net-like pattern). The shade of blue can vary from a standard blue to a deep violet.

Size: They are a medium-sized dart frog, with adults typically reaching up to 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) or slightly larger in length.

Origin: The lineage of the "Super Blue" morph traces back to farm-raised Dendrobates auratus from Panama.

Behavior: The "Super Blue" is considered moderately shy, but like other Dendrobates auratus morphs, it tends to become bolder with age and familiarity with its environment. They are diurnal and generally do well in groups, provided the enclosure has adequate space and numerous hiding spots.

Toxicity: Like all captive-bred dart frogs, they are not poisonous in captivity because their diet lacks the specific insects found in the wild that are responsible for the toxins.

Habitat and Care (Captivity)

The "Super Blue" morph is a hardy and beginner-friendly frog, with care requirements similar to other Dendrobates auratus.  

Enclosure: A well-designed, bioactive vivarium is recommended, with a minimum of 10 gallons per frog. It should include plenty of live plants, leaf litter, and climbing areas

Temperature: They thrive in standard room temperatures, ideally between 70–80°F (21–27°C). Temperatures consistently above 80°F (27°C) should be avoided.

Humidity: High humidity levels (70-100%) are necessary and can be maintained through regular misting.

Diet: A diet of small, live, non-toxic insects such as flightless fruit flies, springtails, and 1/8-inch crickets is recommended. Food should be dusted regularly with a quality vitamin/calcium supplement.

Handling: Due to their small size and sensitive, permeable skin, handling should be minimized and performed with clean, powder-free gloves if necessary.
